Reflections on the Readings and RepliesComments Off

I really enjoy reading about what everyone thinks of the movies. In this module I think that everyone pretty much had the same views of these two movies. For the most part everyone seemed to like them. I also like to hear what everyone has to say about my posts (good or bad).

Reflections on the Readings and the Movies43

After reading chapter three I cam to the conclusion that the film industry is a very cut through industry, but I guess that we all knew that after reading the first two chapters of the book. As I was reading this chapter I thought that it was a little unfair how the United States uses other countries and movie stars from other countries to make money. For example the take over of the theaters that are not doing so well, so that they will get the money that the theatre brings in. They bring the foreign actors over here so that the foreign viewers will watch the American films with the foreign actors in them. They also provide funding for foreign films, so they can get a cut of the money. After reading the whole chapter and looking at it from the business aspect I think that the American film industry is doing exactly the right thing for the business.

I really enjoy watching all three of the Lord of the Ring movies. The fellowship of the ring is what got me hooked. I think that this was probably the most important of the tree, because it is the one that gets people hooked and leaves them wanting more. The makeup in this movie is done with perfection, and the special effects are amazing. For example when the hobbits are standing next to the average size characters they really look small, it almost makes you believe that they are real.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was a pretty good movie. It is not something that I would normally go to the movies to see, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought that the fight scenes were really cool even though it was a little far fetched. My favorite fight scene was the one done on the tree tops. The scenery was beautiful. I liked the love story twist, but who doesn’t like a good love story. Although I was a little confused by the ending, why does she jump of the mountain? What does she wish for? Does it come true? I guess this is what makes it a little more interesting when it keeps you guessing. I can defiantly see how the reading relates to these two movies. I can see now why these movies brought in so much at the box office both here and in other countries.

Resource Found on Readings2

I furled www.paramount.com it is a cool website. On it you will find everything form up and coming attractions to the history of Paramount. If you go to the site, you have to check out the old pictures of Paramount studios, they are beautiful. To find the pictures you have scroll down to Paramount Film Preservation then once you’re in there you need to go to History, that’s where you will find the pictures. When you first get on the site it doesn’t look like much but if you take a minute to browse around you will see that it is a great website.

Sources I found on the movies4

For Titanic, I furled an awesome website it is http://www.titanicmovie.com/menu.html. It has some great information about the Titanic. For example the actual size, the route that it took, how many people lived and how many died. It also has some cool info on the movie. You can look at interviews of James Cameron and the cast. There are so many cool features you’ll definitely have to take a look.
For Waterworld, I furled http://www.lariat.org/AtTheMovies/old/waterworld.html. I thought that it would be interesting to here a film critic’s point of view. His name is Robert Roten, not only did he give his point of view; he also had some info about the movie on there as well.

Reflection on the Movies5

Well I have to say that I enjoyed the movie Waterworld. I think that it is funny that people called Waterworld “Mad Max on Jet skies.” Even though these two movies are very similar I think that Waterworld was much better. I thought that the special effects were great, and I really think that the makeup artist did an awesome job on the actors. The casting was also done well. Dennis Hopper was much better in this one; I think that he makes a great villain. Kevin Costner did a great job; I don’t think the movie would have been as good if he was not in it. Over all, I think this movie was a pretty good action film.
I love, love, love the movie Titanic; it is one of my favorites. I think that this movie is a great love story. All of the actors did such a great job. The special effects in this movie were amazing, for example when the ship splits in two, it looks real.  The song selection was also amazing, even today, if I here “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion I still think of this movie. When watching this movie you really get a feel for the people that were on this ship. It’s a real tearjerker. I think that this is James Cameron’s best movie yet.
“Show me the Money” was the perfect title for this chapter. The movie industry is a huge money making industry. The part of this chapter I found most interesting is how long it can take to make a movie from start to finish. For example it took 20 years for Deep Impact to finally get onto the big screen. This chapter was very informative on the steps that are taken to make movies pre production, production, post production and so on. I can definitely see why the film industry is so hard to break into, but if you can and you make a good movie the payoff would be amazing.
